Introduction to Etching Course Information

2 Day Course : 10.30 am - 5.30 pm

There will be a lunch break from 1.30 - 2.30.pm

Tea and coffee breaks will be provided in the kitchen.

This is an introductory course to the techniques for etching. The course has a set structure with practical exercises to learn and try out etching:

Working on your own zinc plates, participants can experiment with etchings using line on both hard ground and soft ground plates and by adding tone using aquatint techniques.

Course contents:  

• Applying and working into hard & soft grounds                                                          
• Applying and adding tone with aquatint                                                           
• Preparing and inking up plates for intaglio printing

Please bring:          
• Drawings or ideas for drawings to work from

Please wear suitable clothing as you will be working with ink and other etching print materials. Aprons and all materials are provided.

Wear sturdy and appropriate shoes: e.g., trainers, closed leather shoes or work boots - NOT open-toed sandals, flip-flops or you might be refused entrance to the studio.

Please arrive promptly for courses as time is limited. It is essential to attend each day of the course.
