Drawing Courses

Return to Drawing Course

'Return to Drawing’  is like no other drawing course in London. Everyone has experience of drawing – as a child. Yet we often give up. Open to anyone interested in drawing, this course will re-invigorate your hand and your eye. We  draw on a range of  influences – from performance to gestalt and observational drawing. We draw on surrealism as well, using some of their techniques for tapping the creative potential of the subconscious.

Led by artist John Phillips, this course will help you :
Discover your personal approach to drawing.
Broaden your understanding of the materials and activities engaged in drawing.
Become familiar with the application of drawing in printmaking.

Class size is restricted to 8 to allow appropriate access to the course leader during class. During the course, you will complete a number of drawing exercises in class. You will receive guide notes on drawing. You will be given opportunities to discuss your work with the tutor.

Training for Trainers

The course is for trainers running, or preparing to run a print/visual arts/craft/architectural/design workshop, who need to demonstrate visual art/craft techniques and processes, and who also need to develop basic course design skills, dealing with people and groups. Many artists want to develop training and demonstrating skills as part of a professional portfolio.

londonprintstudio operates a professsional development scheme for fine art printmakers who train in studio practice. A high proportion of the younger printmakers employed in print studios in and around London have successfully completed our programme, which includes running training events and workshops. Our course design is based on our direct experience of developing printmakers and artists as trainers.

The course is designed for people who have technical skills that they wish to share with others. Participants should be engaged in the visual arts, and preparing to train in a visual/craft area.

This course will be taught by John Phillips and Darren van der Merwe.

Content: Running a workshop, communicating with people about tools and techniques, demonstrating processes, designing courses, dealing with difficult people and dealing with mixed ability groups. Participants will develop insight into their own training style and delivery.
