British artist Ian Wilkins (b.1986) graduated from Cardiff School of Art & Design in 2011 with an MFA in Fine Art specialising in printmaking. He currently works as a visiting tutor at the London Print Studio and is an associate tutor in Fine Art at Cardiff School of Art & Design. He has recently been selected as artist-in-residence for Marlborough College (Wiltshire, UK) where he will live and work throughout 2012 – 2013.
His work is informed by a diverse range of influences taken from aspects of religious iconography, archeology and science fiction. Wilkins adopts a playful approach to his practice, often appropriating visual themes from contemporary and historical sources and incorporating these as printed motifs. He uses a variety of traditional printmaking techniques to create bold and expressive works that are ambiguous in their appearance and explore his interest in 2D and 3D graphic form.
Recent group exhibitions include: Hong Kong Graphic Arts Fiesta (2011), Welsh Artist of the Year (2011), ‘For Love Not Money’ – 15th Tallinn Print Triennial, Estonia, (2010), ‘Borders & Boundaries’, WAVE exhibition, Wimbledon space, (2010).
