londonprintstudio offers a range of introductory and
advanced workshops in printmaking, photography and one to one tuition in digital training. All our training
sessions are taught in small groups, led by professional artists/printmakers.
Courses run throughout the year.
Introductory courses provide training in specific techniques and are hands-on
and experimental. They are excellent for beginners or as a refresher.
They follow a set structure and are supported by clear and descriptive
course notes. Introductory Courses are experimental and are not intended
to produce a finished project.
Once you have completed an introductory course you can continue your training
on a workshop, through one to one training sessions, or by registering
to use open-access sessions.
You are welcome to visit the studio to view examples of printmaking processes
available, and the training offered in the courses. Please visit Tuesday
to Saturday between 11.00 am and 5.00 pm

| Introduction to Etching |
|
Etching as a process was developed as a quicker, looser, less labour intensive alternative to engraving. An image could be drawn through a wax ground, and the corrosive action of acid used to etch the lines into the metal plates.
Working on your own zinc plates participants can experiment with etchings using line on both hard ground and soft ground plates and adding tone using aquatint techniques. These plates will then be etched, inked up and printed by the participants.
Participants will leave with both the plates and prints created during the course.

| Introduction to Vandercook Letterpress |
|
Letterpress is a term for the relief printing of text and image using a 'type high' printing press, in which a reversed, raised surface is inked and then pressed in to a sheet of paper to obtain an image.
This one day course will introduce the process of letterpress and allow beginners the chance to print on a working Vandercook cylinder press. Our course focuses on using photopolymer plates, on which digital artwork can be exposed and then printed using the Vandercook press.
Participants will expose and print their own plate, and will leave with both the plate and prints. |
